Development of the science of geology, study of earth history and development of life forms throughout geologic time. Three lectures and one field trip or laboratory per week. This course examines the geologic evolution and history of Colorado and the West. Develops the basic concepts needed to interpret the local geology and how our region evolved through time. Features field trips to local points of geologic interest. Approved for Compass Curriculum requirement: Explore-Physical and Natural World.

This course investigates a range of natural hazards, including extinction events, and their depiction in popular media as a starting point for analyses and discussions. Theatrical films, documentaries, and scientific analyses are used to identify causes, consequences, and public perception of natural hazards.
