Floodplain Buyout

In 1997-98 Pierce County bought over 2 million dollars worth of floodplain property damaged by a 500-year flood in 1996. Although this is not part of their "volcano mitigation," it does help to get more people out of the lahar zones (Schroedel, 11/97).
